It's Never Too Late

Happy Monday. I think I'll tell you all a story today #MondayMotivation!

Growing up I always believed I would become a doctor. I would attend college and get my bachelors degree in biology. I would then attend medical school, get my residency started, and sooner than later become a pediatrician. My life was going to be something like that of Grey's Anatomy. I had it all planned out.

High school ended and I was on my way to college. The journey I had planned had begun. During my first year of my undergraduate education I focused greatly on taking classes pertaining to my biology major. It was all so exciting and hard. Nonetheless, I continued. My second year came around and I was trying so hard to save myself from all the mistakes I made my first year. I was in fear of getting kicked out of the university I had so badly wanted to attend. It was during this time that something in me clicked.

I didn't realize it then but I was doing something I did not love. I was taking classes and preparing myself for something I had decided to do when I was younger but as you know, you grow and as you grow you change and so do your aspirations and needs in life. As soon as this mentality hit me I knew I had to fix it. If I continued down that path I would eventually end up doing something I did not love. The thought of that scared me.

At the end of my second year I changed my major to something that interested me. It wasn't exactly what I wanted to do but it was something that I did love. I declared myself as a Chicana/Latina Major with a minor in Civic and Community Engagement. I would later pick up a second bachelors in Sociology. As I continued my undergraduate education I realized I had an even  greater passion for Marketing and Communications. Since it is too late to change my major and picking up a third major would be nearly impossible I have decided to start doing small things to prepare myself  for the field I hope to attain as a career.

Although it took me a little bit longer to have some sense of direction in life, I am happy to say I've directed myself along the right path. I could have easily given up, continued down the road I gave myself years ago, and become what I wanted to do then . Happiness to some may not mean a lot, but it is very important to me and I am happy to do something that makes me happy. If you know me you'll know the huge advocate I am for reminding people that it is never too late. This is what I want you to take from this story.

"Follow your passion. The rest will attend to itself. If I can do it, anybody can do it. It's possible. And it's your turn. So go for it. It's never too late to become what you always wanted to be in the first place."
