To My Best Friend

I have always had a hard time maintaining friendships. I was never good at coexisting in two places and because of this I lost most, if not all of the friendships I created when I was younger. Eventually, I found comfort in knowing that you outgrow people and that it is okay. That is why I was so afraid when we both left college and moved 106 miles away from each other (with good traffic) but there was one thing that was different in our friendship that was evident when I compared it to the rest. I did not find comfort in knowing that things would change. I found comfort in you.

It is important to have someone to go to when things get tough and when you feel like the world is closing in on you but it is equally as important to have someone to go to when life is exciting and when you are so happy you could cry. You have become that person for me. We are so alike yet so different. It's quite insane and so I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for being my concert +1 and never judging the horrible screeching (my singing) that you manage to hear the next day on your snapchat story. Thank you for not leaving me on the highway when I play country music. I'm sorry, I know you hate it. I am glad I have found a friend that is always ready to discover a new coffeeshop even if it ends up being the worst or they don't have wifi.

Thank you for being my friend no matter how much I talk about missing London and loving Lewis Watson. I know I talk about it a lot.

Thank you for being brave. Most people wouldn't want to deal with a Scorpio as a best friend. Thank you for shaping me into a better person, for constantly reminding me to recycle and getting mad at me when I buy heavy plastic, and for always answering the questions I think are stupid. Thank you for never making me feel stupid. Thank you for always picking up the phone when I call. I talk to you so often that I sometimes forget how to talk to other people. There is no one else I can go to other than you to discuss the horrible cup of iced coffee I got at Starbucks because the barista was new and didn't know how many pumps of vanilla to add. I am pretty sure everyone but you would hang up on me if I called just to read their daily horoscope. Most importantly, I am thankful for the night I decided to watch My Mad Fat Diary in our apartment living room because if I didn't, you would have never stopped and started a conversation with me about how much you loved Finn and traveling and accents. Little did you know that I was also crazy about Finn, obsessed with Ireland and British boys.

You are not just my best friend, you are a home and when someone finds a friend like you, existing is easy.

Thank you for it all. Happy Birthday.
